This is the very first sweet dough recipe I've ever tried. It is now my go-to recipe whenever I crave for Sweet Rolls. It's simple to make, and very versatile. It’s great for making cinnamon rolls, chocolate or fruit filled rolls. It makes my kitchen smell like bakery heaven! Can’t wait for you to try it! 💕

Sweet Dough Recipe
Ingredients

1 1/2 cup warm water

1 tsp sugar

2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast

5 cups flour

1/3 cup sugar

1 tsp salt

3/4 cup warm milk

2 large eggs

3/4 cup butter

1 tbsp vanilla extract

 Follow These Steps

Preheat your oven to 350F

  1. Activate the yeast by whisking together 1/2 cup warm water, 1 tsp sugar, and 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast. Set aside for 10 min until thick foam form on top. If foam doesn’t form on top, that means your yeast is not active. Repeat the process if your yeast doesn’t foam.

  2. In a mixing bowl, put 5 cups of flour, and create a well in the center. Add 1/3 cup sugar, 1 tsp salt, 3/4 cup warm milk, 2 large eggs, 3/4 cup butter, 1 tbsp vanilla extract and the bloomed yeast. Mix together in low speed until all ingredients are combined. Switch to using your hands to form the dough, and knead for about 5 minutes. Cover the bowl with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 45-60 min.

  3. Once risen, deflate the dough by folding it in, lifting one edge into the center and repeat on all sides. Form the dough into a smooth ball. Transfer the dough onto a floured surface. Using a rolling pin, roll out the dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.

  4. Your dough is now ready to be filled. Check out our Lemon Curd or Cinnamon Rolls recipes for filling ideas. Feel free to get creative, and try your own filling.

  5. Most Sweet Rolls bake at 350F for about 30 min. Enjoy your Sweet Rolls while warm!

Variations

Cinnamon Sweet Dough - add 1 tsp cinnamon. Use for Cinnamon Rolls and Pumpkin Cheesecake Rolls.

Lemon Sweet Dough - add 1 tbsp lemon zest. Use for Lemon Curd Rolls.

Pro Tip

Pour 1/3 cup of heavy cream over your Sweet Rolls before baking to make them extra soft.

Let your Sweet Rolls rise for another 15 min before baking.
